For the laborer or apprentice, your day starts early — from loading trucks, organizing materials, and helping set up the job site at the beginning of the day. This is a busy position and one designed for hands-on learning. It includes assisting with tear-offs, cleanup, and basic installs while gaining valuable experience. It’s physical work, but a great stepping stone into a skilled roofing career and future positions.
Roof mechanics are the foundation of the roofing crew. Their day involves installing roofing systems, such as sheet metal, laying shingles or TPO, and making sure every detail meets current build standards. This position works closely with the roofing foreman and other crew members, using tools and training to craft reliable, long-lasting roofs.
The roofing foreman functions as the crew leader. This position requires an experienced hand and strong communication skills. Their day includes planning the work, assigning tasks, and keeping everything running smoothly throughout the day. It is their role to balance hands-on roofing work with supervision, quality control, and safety checks, ensuring the job is done right, safely, and on schedule.
Roofing service technicians focus on problem-solving. Each day can bring something different — from diagnosing leaks to completing repairs and preventative maintenance. They may work independently or with a small team depending on what the task calls for, often interacting with customers in-person to explain their current roof situation and ensure their roofing systems are able to perform at their best. Superintendents work to oversee multiple job sites, regularly checking in with foremen and coordinating schedules between crews. They work to ensure that every project meets deadlines and current safety standards.
